Apple Crisp
This classic turn-of-the-century apple crisp recipe was handed down to me by my grandmother and has always been great for a quick and easy desert for my family and guests... Great for potlucks, and any family get-together or reunion.
My grandmother always made this delicious apple crisp as a special treat for us every Fall from the fresh apples picked from our backyard tree. The whole family loved this special dessert and we always begged her to make it.
Ingredients
4 to 6 large tart apples like Granny Smith or Braeburn
3 tablespoons All-purpose flour
3 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/4 tsp ground ginger
Topping
3/4 cup All-purpose flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup butter cut into chunks
Salt as necessary
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Peel, core and slice the apples and place in a large bowl. Mix with flour, white sugar and cinnamon and place in your slightly buttered baking dish.
Combine all the rest of the dry ingredients add butter and mix with 2 knives or a pastry blender until crumbly. Sprinkle all this over apples and mix until apples are thoroughly covered. Place into a deep dish baking pan and bake at 350 degrees for at least 30 minutes until apples are tender.
