1/2 gallon apple cider
12 cloves
3 cinnamon sticks
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 c. orange juice
1/2 c. lemon juice
Heat apple cider. Add all ingredients. Allow the mixture to simmer for half hour or more.
Great for a party on a chilly night or before and after treat-or-treating
Makes 12 servings.
Here is a variation of this delicious hot drink with a little extra kick.
Hot Spiked Apple Cider
A popular New England style of cider, with a bit of brandy to keep you warm on those chilly fall nights.
Ingredients:
1 tbs whole allspice
1 3-inch cinnamon stick
3 cups apple juice
1 cup orange juice
1 tsp honey
1/2 cup brandy
Directions
Place the allspice berries and broken cinnamon stick into a piece of cheesecloth, and drop in a large saucepan along with the apple juice,orange juice, and honey. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat down to a low simmer. Let steep on simmer, covered, for about 15 - 20 minutes. Take out the spice bag, and stir in brandy. Serve immediately.
